Wind-Up Zenmaines

Epic artwork

Rank 3/Machine/Fire
2 Level 3 monstersIf this face-up card on the field would be destroyed, you can detach1 Xyz Material from this card instead. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this effect was used this turn: Target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

Well, now isn't this a little surprise? What a very fun card this turned out to be! Not only does it give Wind-Ups a bit more support, but this card is quite incredible on it's own. It has a great defensive ability that not only allows it to survive longer, but it also destroys something afterwards. Ram it into a monster, survive a destruction effect, or just have it as a chum blocker as a last defense. No matter what, this card is sure to be rewarding for anybody who uses it wisely. But be careful, it can only destroy once, so multiple survivals in one turn won't stack.

Pain Painter

While this card is face-up on the field, its name is treated as "Plaguespreader Zombie". Once per turn: You can target up to 2 face-up Zombie-Type monsters you control, except this card; they become Level 2 until the End Phase. They cannot be used as Synchro Material Monsters except for the Synchro Summon of a Zombie-Type monster.

Well, looks like the new TCG exclusives for GENF are coming in slowly. This one is a bit curious, because I have always wanted a tuner like this to exist (only Plague for zombies seemed a bit unfair, even for just casual games since their synchros were barely playable due to their only tuner limited to 1). But it is a really good card for zombies, since the level modification effect can easily give access to each of the zombie synchros and with any zombies you control. This means that this can work well in a Skull Servant deck without having to worry about all those levels now.

Fun card, don't know if it will ever make it to meta decks, but it's a card I would definitely get if I'm going to play any Zombie-themed deck.

Rescue Rabbit

Finally back from vacation. Started catching up with what I have been missing, and suddenly I find this little card:

This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Deck. During your Main Phase: You can banish this face-up card; Special Summon 2 Level 4 or lower Normal Monsters with the same name from your Deck. Those monsters are destroyed during the End Phase. The effect of "Rescue Rabbit" can only be used once per turn.

This card is pretty neat, but it's not broken. Yes, there are ways to reuse it and it's at 3, but it's nothing like it's feline counterpart. Why? Well, they found a way to balance it out. Banishing it makes sure you won't abuse it as much as Cat (unless you use Dimensional Alchemist or Levial as a way to recycle it), the monsters must be normal and of the same name (avoiding synchro shenanigans unless you play Natural Tune), it's only once per turn, and it cannot be special summoned from the deck (so no Rat into Rabbit plays for example).

But while this card has great potential, it's meant to be a lean mean Exceed/Xyz spitting machine. Just it's effect alone can make Exceed/Xyz summons from Ranks 4 to 1 (as long as they need 2 monsters alone), since it brings out the Overlay Units from the deck.

But still, this little bunny is more than meets the eye, as mentioned above. There are many uses to this card, and one can only sit and wait to see if this card will make an impact or not.

Kachi Kochi Dragon

Rank 4/Dragon/Exceed
2100/1300

2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn, if this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle, you can detach 1 Exceed Material from this card to allow this card to attack once again, immediately.

Well, yet another interesting exceed monster. However, this one differs from the pack in terms that this one is meant to be more aggressive than control. So of course, this had to grab my interest. Getting an extra attack for the cost of an exceed material is quite nice. Not just that, an aggressive-natured exceed makes me wonder whether aggression or control will be the overall predominant trait. But for now, this card seems to be like an awesome addition to any extra deck, especially since it's one of the better Rank 4 monsters I have seen.

Bueno, ahora vemos otro monstruo exceed bien interesante.

Evolkaiser Ragia

Rank 4/Dinosaur/Exceed
2400/2000
2 Level 4 Dinosaur-Type monsters
You can detach 2 Exceed Materials from this card to negate the activation of a Spell/Trap Card OR the Normal or Special Summon of a monster, and destroy that card.

And there it is, yet another incredible Exceed Monster. As I said previously, it seems these guys will have more orientation towards control in difference to the agressive nature Synchro Monsters possess. And Evolkaiser Ragia is no exception to this "Exceed Control" trait. Removing 2 materials in order to basically become a Solemn Judgment with legs is no laughing matter. It's effect uses both materials as a cost, so your one and only negation will have to be used wisely. Indeed another balanced card.

Not only that, but it gives Dinosaurs an excellent new toy. Juracs and Hydrogeddon welcome this with open arms.

1 "Elemental Hero" monster + 1 DARK monster
This card cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon. This card gains 100 ATK for each "Elemental Hero" monster in your Graveyard.

At last, Elemental Heroes are now able to fuse with every attribute. Most of all, this DARK fusion means a chaos variant of heroes could be viable, since Shining is a very good card as well. While it's effect may leave a few people wanting more, it's the attribute that makes this card great.

This is all thanks to Super Polymerization. Now Gravekeepers, Blackwings, Shi En, and others will have to watch out as well.

Tour Guide From the Underworld

Classes are over, so it's time to once again continue blogging (as much as I can during vacation).

First thing I did, review some of the newer cards I ignored during finals. After some searching, I came across this little curiosity. Hey, I know I'm a bit late on the EXVC stuff, but finals were more important.

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 Level 3 Fiend-Type monster from your hand or Deck. Its effects are negated, and it cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster.

Can't be used for Synchro? No problem! Exceed then!

No se puede usar para synchro? No hay problema! Usalo para Exceed!

I like how it can also thin the deck by either getting a copy of itself or Sangan. But I mostly like it for the Exceed shenanigans, especially since there are a few interesting Rank 3 monsters, like Tera Byte.

Real Crusader

Warrior/4/Effect

When a Level 5 or higher monster is Special Summoned, you must Tribute this card. Destroy that monster.

Pretty interesting control card. While it would have been better if it negated, destroying a level 5 or higher special summoned monster is still no laughing matter. Gets rid of most synchros, Cyber Dragon, Machina Fortress, Master Hyperion, Gladiator Beast fusions (most notably Gyzrus), Dark Armed Dragon, and Judgment Dragon to name a few...

Best part, being a warrior means it not only has more support, but it's easily searchable.

Reborn Tengu

One of the newest cards from Extreme Victory, Reborn Tengu has already shown us that it can be a big time player in both synchro and exceed decks alike.

4 stars/Wind/Beast-Warrior

When this card is removed from the field, Special Summon 1 "Reborn Tengu" from your Deck.

Remove for anything (tribute summon, synchro, tribute as cost for an effect, ram into monster of equal attack, remove from play) and get another one from the deck at no extra cost? Yes please!

Si

Use it with Deep-Sea Diva or Pleaguespreader for a double 6 synchro summon. Tribute it for a monarch and get another Tengu as well. Also, Tengu can now help boost Rank 4 exceed summons just by it's effect alone, since it replaces itself with another copy.

I already can't wait for this card to come out, since I'm sure it's going to be a very good card someday. I'm just glad it's the Sneak Preview promo card...

Vayu Turbo vs Standard Blackwing

In this new format, Blackwings have wondered what their new purpose will be now that Kalut is limited and Goyo is gone. Most have wondered about switching over to Vayu-Tubo, the one BW variant that went basically unaffected by the list.

But the standard build is far from being counted out. Even though Kalut is at 1, we now have space to run cards like Thunder King Rai-Oh in our decks, adding a bit more control to the deck.

And even though Vayu-Turbo is a great deck, it still falls greatly to Macro and Gravekeepers (a deck also not affected as much by the list). Standard BW doesn't fall too behind either, since it's enemies are also quite commonly known. But either way, Vayu-Turbo seems a bit more vulnerable than Standard BW.

So what will happen this format? I expect Vayu-Turbo to take a rise in usage, but also keeping as much participation as Standard BW decks. Only time will tell if Vayu-Turbo rises to the occasion in this format, or if it once again fades into obscurity.

Dealing with Maxx "C"

So Maxx "C" is going to be a popular side-deck choice now thanks to swarm decks like Six Samurai, Fish, Sabers, and others. However, some will main it. As we know, Maxx "C" will try to force the opponent to stop special summoning if he/she doesn't want to allow you to draw a lot. But what if you could use that effect to your advantage instead and turn the tables?

There's a card for that.

Hay una carta para eso.

Greed!

GreedDR3-EN-SR.png

Each time a player draws cards because of a card effect, they take 500 damage during the End Phase for each card drawn by the card effect.

So now when your opponent uses Maxx "C" to try and gain the upper hand, use Greed as a reversal to punish your opponent for each card drawn this way. The more you special summon, the more damage you make. Great way to turn the tables if damage has already been done. But keep in mind, your opponent will still draw, so it's a risk...but too fun to pass up. Swarm decks may want to side this if they see a heavy use of Maxx "C" in their area.

Intercept Wave

Good side deck option against many decks being used in today's meta.

Useful against Fish OTK, Plant Synchro, X-Sabers and even Blackwing decks.

Útil contra Fish OTK, Plant Synchro, X-Sabers y Blackwings.

While it's only baiting a Hyunlei play, or waiting until the "Scrap Wurm OTK" is set in place, Intercept Wave can help even the odds.

Froggy Fish: Revisit

Today I rebuilt my old Frog Fish variant in exchange for the Mausoleum variant I was using just to see how which of my 2 builds did better. And so, it had good games, but I should have taken it to the tourney...oh well. Next week I suppose...

Froggy Fish / "Pezapo"

Monsters: 24

Coelacanth x3
Oyster Meister x3
Fishborg Blaster x2
Royal Swamp Eel x2
Metabo-Shark
Golden Flying Fish
Dupe Frog x2
Treeborn Frog x2
Swap Frog x3
Ronintoadin
Gorz, Emissary of Darkness
Vanity's Fiend
Caius, the Shadow Monarch x2

Spells: 16

Giant Trunade
Moray of Greed x2
Gold Sarcophagus x2
Monster Reborn
Pot of Avarice
Dark Hole
Book of Moon x2
Enemy Controller x2
Creature Swap
My Body as a Shield
Mystical Space Typhoon x2

Now to explain a few changes:

1. Not using the traditional 3 Fishborg, but rather 2 Fishborg and 2 Eels because somehow it just works for me. Many will go against it, but it's more about personal preference.

2. Creature Swap helps get rid of those pesky lone monsters that can ruin the OTK like Tytannial, Shooting-Star, and others for possible tribute fodder.

3. Metabo-Shark has worked as a good means of recycling, plus can give access to lvl 6 via Treeborn and Fishborg.

Para explicar los cambios:

Extreme Victory: Psychics

Just saw the new Psychics coming out and I gotta say, it's good to see a set of psychics that have complete synergy without having to rely on your lifepoints, but instead work with a removal/recursion engine that seems pretty stable.

Psychic Wizard of Silence

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can select 1 Psychic-Typemonster in your Graveyard, and remove it from play. When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard, Special Summon the monsterremoved from play by this card's effect.

Psychic Witch of Stillness

When this card on the field is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, you can remove from play 1 Psychic-Type monster with 2000 or lessATK from your Deck. During your next Standby Phase, Special Summon the monster removed from play by this effect.

Taciturn Psychic Priest

When this card is Normal or Flip Summoned, it is changed to Defense Position. Once per turn, you can send 1 card from your hand to theGraveyard to select 1 Psychic-Type monster in your Graveyard, andremove it from play. When this card is sent from the field to theGraveyard, you can select 1 monster removed from play by this card's effect, and Special Summon it.

Mental Over Archfiend

1 Psychic-Type Tuner + 2 or more non-Tuner Psychic-Typemonsters
Once per turn, you can select 1 Psychic-Type monster in yourGraveyard, and remove it from play. When this card is sent from thefield to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon as many monstersthat were removed by this card's effect as possible.

Mental Seeker

(Effect still unconfirmed/ efecto todavia no confirmado)

When this removed from play card is Special Summoned, pick up the top 3 cards of your opponent's Deck. Selectone of them and remove it from play, then return the rest to the Deck.

Will this be enough to give Psychics a notable boost?

Six Strike - Thunder Blast

Normal Trap

Remove 1 Bushido Counter from your side of the field to activate one of the following effects:
Select 1 monster your opponent controls, and destroy it.
Select 1 card your opponent controls, and return it to the hand.

So the TCG is trying to get Samurais to play differently by relying on counters due to this and Shien's Daredevil. However, this card is simply amazing! Getting Bushido Counters with the new swarm of Samurai should be an easy feat, whether it's on Gateway or on Six Samurai United, there will be plenty of counter abuse.

This is the best use of the counter mechanic since the last batch of Alien cards in Crimson Crisis, and this one so far is also being very well developed. Not a fan of Samurai, but even I have to admit when something is nicely done, especially if it promotes a mechanic not too often used.

Attention Fish Duelists!!!!

It seems I might be the only Fish player in all of Puerto Rico. In all my years with the deck I have yet to meet anyone (besides my buddy Siulzen who used to play Fish years ago) who is currently piloting the deck. I hope that any of the local players reading this would let me know if there's any other Fish player out there (in the Metro Area of course). Because I look forward to a match with any fellow Fish player.

Vortex the Whirlwind

So the Sneak Peek Promo for Storm of Ragnarok has been revealed. And I gotta say, it's very interesting.

Vortex the Whirlwind

Winged-Beast/Wind/Synchro/6

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Winged Beast-Type monsters
When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Winged Beast-Type monsterfrom your Deck.

Vortex makes for an ideal card to use in both Blackwings and Dragunity decks alike. Blackwings now have an extra synchro they can access via Blizzard + Kalut or Shura + Vayu, while Dragunities have Legionnaire + Phalanx. It also has compatibility with Icarus Attack, which is something both Dragunities and Blackwings alike can exploit under a tight situation.

Whether you like it or not, Vortex will be a card these 2 decks will be likely to use from now on due to the great synergy it holds. Blackwings will ram it into something (like Monarchs) and then search and attack with Shura, while Dragunities can search Tribus and dump their essential tuners like Phalanx.

Wattsquirrel

This little guy is great side deck against Plant Synchro and Frognarch.

Wattsquirrel will negate their essential cards: Ryko won't destroy/mil, Treeborn won't come back, Sangan won't search and Dandylion won't produce tokens.

Give this little sucker a try, you might be surprised how well it works.

Breaker, the Magical Warrior

It could prove useful during this meta, since there's a whole ton of spell/trap presence now. The way I see it, use it to bait a Solemn Warning for example. Either they pay 2000LP to negate Breaker, or you have a slight chance of hitting it.

New Fish Support

Just checked the new promos for the Jump Fiesta 2011 in Japan and happened to have found 2 interesting things there...

Nimble Manta

WATER/Fish - Effect/2/800/100
When this card on the field is sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, you can Special Summon any number of "Nimble Manta" from your Deck.

Nimble manta is simply amazing. It's the brother of Nimble Sunfish, but doesn't thin the deck as much. It does however, swarm the field when it's sent to the grave via card effect, something that Sunfish is unable to do and is most vulnerable to. Imagine a Dark Hole with Manta on field, bring 2 out, tribute for Coelcacanth and proceed to wreck face.

Don't be so quick to dismiss this ray, because if used correctly, it can set up some explosive plays. As a Fish player (a few years now), this is my christmas gift from Konami...even though it won't be here for a while.

Rage of Deep Sea

WATER/Fish - Effect/5/0/0
This card gains ATK and DEF equal to the number of Fish-, Sea Serpent-, and Aqua-Type monsters in your Graveyard x 500.

Now this is actually ironic, since I had some friends telling me a Fish like this should exist. And behold, it's been created. I like the fact that it can increase it's attack with not just Fish, making it versatile with Frogs or Levia decks if you want to. But it's main use is in Fish. 500 attack for every Fish in the graveyard is nothing to laugh at, especially if you summon this late game after one or two Coelcacanth swarms. If used correctly, it might serve as an alternate boss for Fish decks. Not going to overlook this card, since it has some potential to be real nasty.
