Xyz Reborn

Target 1 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it and attach this card to it as an Xyz Material.
I was talking about this card with a friend today and figured it would be a worthy topic for today's post. Let's see...a themed trap card that revives Xyz monsters and turns into an Xyz Material in the process? Not bad at all.

So of course, this card opens up some crazy shenanigans right off the bat, both offensively and defensively. On the defensive side, you can use it to block an attack with Utopia and save yourself. Bring back Wind-Up Zenmaines and not only keep a monster, but blow something up for a defensive and offensive play at once. Bring back Adreus or Tiras for a surprise offense. Perhaps you want to bring back Zenmaity to further the loop.

So which ever way you put it, Xyz Reborn can be a game changer. However, having a card limited only to Xyz monsters is a bit risky. Then again, if your deck is capable of bringing many of these guys out, one or two copies won't hurt.

Xyz Reborn, use it wisely. I may just change the tide.

Lost Blue Breaker

Rare double-post night. However, one of the final TCG Exclusives for GENF has been revealed...and it's a really fun card.

If there is another face-up Fish, Sea Serpent, or Aqua-Type monster on the field: You can Tribute this card to target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy that target.

First of all, I'm really liking this card. Second, I hope it's a rare because it would be sad to have it as a secret rare (especially since I want 3).

This card is quite amazing when combined with Treeborn Frog or Deepsea Diva, for example, since you already meet the card's activation cost. It's requirement makes sure it's a candidate for BaniFish decks, since it can be removed and recycled if you want. Not just that, it's also quite searchable. It might not be revolutionary, but it certainly is a cool card.

Also notice how it says any Fish, Sea-Serpent, or Aqua type ON THE FIELD...that's right, it's even better when your opponent helps you meet the conditions.

And yes, tributing itself isn't exactly the best way to spend a summon, but it's requirement makes sure you don't stay defenseless.

Overall, this is a great card and I'm looking forward to playing it in either my BaniFish Deck (hopefully I will obtain it soon) or it might find some room in my old Codarus Control deck (Codarus+LBB=Eliminate 3 cards!). I dunno, worth a shot.

The Selection

One of the most awesome cards I have played in my side-deck in quite a while.

Pay 1000 Life Points. Negate the Summon of a monster that has the same Type as a monster on the field, and destroy it.

Essentially, it's a budget-friendly option to those who are looking to add a little more control to their side. Most decks in our meta today focus all on a single type: Gravekeepers (Spellcasters), Samurai (Warriors), Karakuri (Machine), Blackwings for Japan (Winged-Beast), Agents for Japan (Fairy), Dragunity (Dragon/Winged-Beast), Fish, X-Sabers (Beast-Warrior/Beast), and Frogs.

Due to the huge amount of single-typed monsters these decks play, this card can be essential to stop an opponents play on either of these 2 scenarios:

1- Your opponent already has a monster of Y-Type on the field and summons another one of said type, NEGATE!

2- Your opponent summons a monster of the same type as you have, NEGATE!

This is why this card is so good in mirror matches. Even if their field is empty, you can negate simply by having a similar type on your field.

Essential cards that The Selection can negate in mirror matches:

1- Shi En
2- Blizzard (Instant-Synchro)
3- Dragunity Dux (Same as BW)
4- Coelacanth (Watch out for those Oyster Tokens)
5- Gravekeeper's Spy/Descendant/Recruiter
6- Faultroll
7- Karakuri/Gadgets
8- Swap Frog
9- Infernity Archfiend/Necromancer (Yea, they still get played...so I put them)

There's quite a ton of possibilities with this card in a well placed side-deck. Try it out and see how unexpected it can be. Your opponent will never see it coming. Plus, it's 1000 less than Warning...and budget friendly!

Tragoedia

With the new Exceed Monsters coming out, Tragoedia is going to be a key card in many decks.

Summon Tragoedia

Discard monster

Modify level to one you took control of.

Proceed to Exceed Summon.

And people thought Trag was dangerous for Synchros...

Just wait until Exceeds come out...

Dealing with Maxx "C"

So Maxx "C" is going to be a popular side-deck choice now thanks to swarm decks like Six Samurai, Fish, Sabers, and others. However, some will main it. As we know, Maxx "C" will try to force the opponent to stop special summoning if he/she doesn't want to allow you to draw a lot. But what if you could use that effect to your advantage instead and turn the tables?

There's a card for that.

Hay una carta para eso.

Greed!

GreedDR3-EN-SR.png

Each time a player draws cards because of a card effect, they take 500 damage during the End Phase for each card drawn by the card effect.

So now when your opponent uses Maxx "C" to try and gain the upper hand, use Greed as a reversal to punish your opponent for each card drawn this way. The more you special summon, the more damage you make. Great way to turn the tables if damage has already been done. But keep in mind, your opponent will still draw, so it's a risk...but too fun to pass up. Swarm decks may want to side this if they see a heavy use of Maxx "C" in their area.

New Fish Support

Just checked the new promos for the Jump Fiesta 2011 in Japan and happened to have found 2 interesting things there...

Nimble Manta

WATER/Fish - Effect/2/800/100
When this card on the field is sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, you can Special Summon any number of "Nimble Manta" from your Deck.

Nimble manta is simply amazing. It's the brother of Nimble Sunfish, but doesn't thin the deck as much. It does however, swarm the field when it's sent to the grave via card effect, something that Sunfish is unable to do and is most vulnerable to. Imagine a Dark Hole with Manta on field, bring 2 out, tribute for Coelcacanth and proceed to wreck face.

Don't be so quick to dismiss this ray, because if used correctly, it can set up some explosive plays. As a Fish player (a few years now), this is my christmas gift from Konami...even though it won't be here for a while.

Rage of Deep Sea

WATER/Fish - Effect/5/0/0
This card gains ATK and DEF equal to the number of Fish-, Sea Serpent-, and Aqua-Type monsters in your Graveyard x 500.

Now this is actually ironic, since I had some friends telling me a Fish like this should exist. And behold, it's been created. I like the fact that it can increase it's attack with not just Fish, making it versatile with Frogs or Levia decks if you want to. But it's main use is in Fish. 500 attack for every Fish in the graveyard is nothing to laugh at, especially if you summon this late game after one or two Coelcacanth swarms. If used correctly, it might serve as an alternate boss for Fish decks. Not going to overlook this card, since it has some potential to be real nasty.

Frigg has 2 Apples, but I have 1 Apple...

Upon getting back from work, I noticed they had a few new cards revealed for Storm of Ragnarok.

Apple of Frigg

Trap Card

Activate only while you control no monsters. Gain Life Points equal to the total amount of Battle Damage you took this turn. Then, Special Summon 1 "Wicked Spirit Token" (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 1/ATK ?/DEF ?). Its ATK and DEF are equal to the Life Points you gained by this card's effect.

Move over Gorz, there's a new way to mess with opponents! Now then, this isn't a direct replacement to Gorz, but it's a pretty damn fun card. It's basically no damage and a token!

I like it a little better than Gorz since I can still have spells and traps to protect myself, and I can bait a big attack for a big token.

It's definitely worth testing out.

The Supreme Trainer

Spellcaster/Fusion/Level 10

1 Spellcaster-Type Synchro Monster + 1 Spellcaster-Type monster
This card cannot be Special Summoned from your Extra Deck except by Fusion Summon. When this card is Fusion Summoned, place 2 Spell Counters on it. This card gains 1000 ATK for each Spell Counter on it. Once per turn, you can remove 1 Spell Counter from a card you control to activate 1 of the following effects:
● Select and destroy 1 card on the field.
● Draw 1 card
Well, looks like this is quite the interesting card for my Gravekeeper's...

Note that while it is an Arcanite Magician, it requires just a spellcaster synchro and any other spellcaster.

Diva-Spy is just got it's new boss. Flip Spy, search any Gravekeeper, summon Diva and search for Reese/Diva. Tune Diva and Spy for Tempest/Explosive. Attack with synchro, Gravekeeper and this card that helps the deck too...

With Super Polymerization, you can safely attack and summon Supreme Trainer with no problems. And since Gravekeeper's don't mind the discard (thanks to Stele), it's the ideal fusion card for this deck.

Dirg The Dark Monarch

Spellcaster/6/Effect
2400/1000

When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can remove from play up to 2 cards from your opponent's Graveyard. For each card removed, send the top card of your opponent's Deck to the Graveyard. This card cannot attack during the turn it is Normal or Special Summoned.

Effective side deck vs Infernity, Frogs and Sabers. However, by the time this is released in the TCG, we should have a completely different meta (taking a guess).

We still can't ignore this card. Notice how it's effect can go into effect when it's also special summoned. Use Dirg to remove for such things as DAD and then revive via DDR or Escape From the Dark Dimension to keep using it. Hey, it's worth a shot.

Fleur de Chevalier

I saw this was coming out in the next Tag Force game and went nuts. This card is indeed good.

It's stats and effect:
Synchro level 8
2700/2300

"Fleur Synchron" + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once during your turn, you can negate the activation of an opponent's Spell or Trap Card, and destroy it.
Sus atributos y su efecto son:
Sincronía Nivel 8

2700/2300

"Flor Sincrón" + 1 o más monstruos que no sean Cantantes
Una vez durante tu turno, niega la activación de una Carta Mágica o de Trampa de tu adversario, y destruyela.
Great effect. Sure, it's limited to negating only 1 Spell/Trap during your turn, but that's all you need when you look at it. Fleur can negate Torrential, Mirror Force, Dimensional Prison, Shrink, Compulsory, and other troublesome cards that can leave you wishing you had that set Dark Bribe.

Gran efecto.

And not just that, you can also bring it out with this little popular fellow:

Y no solo eso, sino que puedes sacar esta carta con la ayuda de un cierto Tuner bien famoso:

Since Quickdraw substitutes any "Synchron" tuner, you can easily use it for Fleur the same way you would summon Junk Destroyer.

Shooting Star and Scar-Red

Star Strike Blast has some new incredible "boss" synchros. And for once, they are actually quite simple to summon (unlike the Savior dragons).

(Effects weren't written down due to not being 100% confirmed yet)

First runner is Scar-Red Nova Dragon, the easiest one to summon by far.

All it needs in Red Dragon Archfiend and 2 tuners for the summon.

Flamvells can summon it via Rekindling (summoning Firedog, Magician, Archer, and Baby)

One RDA with 2 Deep Sea Divas is another way.

Blackwings can use Blizzard to revive Mistral to gain easy access to 2 tuners.

Junk Synchron + Turbo Synchron is another excellent way of doing so.

Fish can also do it, considering they can summon Formula Synchron like nobody's business...

And speaking of Fish...

This guy is going to get abused in Fish once it comes out!

I think Fish decks can bring this guy out with little to no effort.

Summon Coelacanth and proceed to swarm with 1 Oyster Meister, 2 Royal Swamp Eel, and 1 Golden Flying Fish/Metabo-Shark. All while keeping Fishborg Blaster in your graveyard or hand to discard for Coelacanth's effect.

Tune RSE with the first lvl 4 Fish to make Stardust, then tune the other RSE with Oyster to make Gungnir (can't wait for this card to get to the TCG) and leave off a token.

Discard a card to special summon Fishborg from the graveyard and tune it with the token for a Formula Synchron.

Proceed to go nuts.

Generation Shift

Hmmm...so it destroys a monster as a cost to add another one to the hand, huh? I wonder where this can work?

Perhaps if I combine it with Amazoness Village...

Props to Harpie_Commander for pointing this out

Big Burn

You can only activate this card when your opponent activates a card that specifically designates a monster in the Graveyard as a target. Remove all monsters in both players' Graveyards from play.

With the current format taking great use of the graveyard, this little trap can shine. Even though most don't consider it due to the risk or removing their own monsters, decks that don't require much graveyard use can take full advantage of this...

So to name a few...

Macro, Glads, Anti-Meta Gadgets, Rock Stun

This card is in my main deck for KillSwitch and it's incredible.

Opponent summons Ragigura and targets his Faultroll, or activates Gottom's E-Call to revive 2 Sabers...Big Burn solves the problem!

Your opponent has just summoned Infernity Necromancer and targets Archfiend, Big Burn!

By having it main decked, it is sure to give a surprise at game 1, along with quite the advantage.

Nimble Sunfish

At last, this could have been the support many of us Fish players have been waiting for. For a long time, our options for Coelacanth involved either StarFish (consisting of the Star Blast version, which is the most consistent version), or Genex Fish (which has stirred some debate over it being the best version or not).

Nimble Sunfish not only helps speed the deck, it also helps you dump any fish you want into the graveyard, namely Coelacanth. Why Coelacanth? It can open the doors to some reverse toolboxing if you are running Symbols of Duty in the Genex variant, or it can open the doors to Phantom of Chaos if you choose to run it (also stirred some debate over it's use, but I won't leave the information out...the use is up to the player).

However, dumping fish into the graveyard can also be beneficial for StarFish variants, as it could help feed Pot of Avarice for a second swarm, or prepare that first swarm if the setup was previously prevented.

Sunfish also allows for consistent deck thinning, and combined with Treeborn Frog and Fishborg Blaster, Coelacanth can have enough tributes to be summoned without having to spend any lifepoints, which is quite the plus for StarFish decks.

And last, but not least...Sunfish gives all fish decks the long awaited consistent way of summoning synchro monsters of levels other than those in the 7-9 range. Since Sunfish is level 2, Royal Swamp Eel can help you achieve that much needed level 6 synchro into a Goyo or Brionac.

To conclude, Nimble Sunfish is just what fish decks needed. It speeds up the deck in more ways than one, and facilitates the summoning of our ace card. Once TSHD is released, I will definitely be running to get myself a playset of these and bring back my Fish deck.

Pot of Greederosity

Look at the top 3 cards of your Deck. Select 1 of them, and add it to your hand, and return the rest to your Deck. You can only activate 1 "Pot of Greederosity" and you cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate this card.
Now, this is quite the interesting card coming out in The Duelist Revolution. As it says, you show the top 3 cards of your deck and add one of those to your hand. Quite simple and efficient.

It seems generic support has come out in the form of this card. It adds some search value to many decks that need it.

However, you cannot special summon the turn you use this card and it can only be activated once per turn. Well, it balances out it's use...so why not?

So how about using this card in decks that don't special summon? Mostly in Control or Oppression decks.

Activate Pot of Greederosity and perhaps add a Gadget to your hand, or maybe a Fissure/Smashing Ground. Need a specific monster that can adapt to the situation? This card can help you out. But what if I get a trap, won't my opponent know what's coming?

Yes, and no.

Let's say you get Widespread Dud, Royal Oppression, or any other useful trap from the card's effect, and set it. Your opponent might try to destroy it to keep you from doing it, but what if you use this knowledge in order to set an elaborate trap?

Searched a Royal Oppression? Why not set Widespread Dud for mind games? Have your opponent waste their removal on a bluff so that you can be safe to set the searched card afterwards.

However, this card is still vulnerable to such cards as Dark Bribe, Magic Drain, and even Rai-Oh.As mentioned in G-Ray's blog, he stated Rai-Oh could be this card's most common enemy. And it just might as well be, since it's such a commonly played card in today's meta.

However, despite the card's downside of not being able to special summon or it's vulnerability, it's still a great card that could very well support multiple decks (even Anti-Meta decks) in more ways than one. The possibilities with this are numerous, and many have yet to be discovered...

Coming soon, more thoughts on other aspects in the yugioh world...

Keymouse

With all the talk of Blackwings and Infernities in the upcoming set The Shining Darkness, it feels like some cards from the set simply got lost in the shuffle. However, today I bring you one of those interesting cards that's worth a notable mention.

Keymouse

When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can add 1 Level 3 or lower Beast-Type monster from your deck to your hand.
Now, why would this card be interesting, you ask? Simple. Moja decks have a field day with this! It's compatible with Kinka-Byo, One-for-One, searchable by Giant Rat, Super-Nimble Mega Hamser and Sangan, and searches for Moja, Airbellum, and Kinka-Byo.

So why would it be worth it besides just that? Some of you may simply wonder if it's worth the hassle, but this little mouse has another trick...it's a Tuner!

By making it a level 1 Tuner, it allows Moja decks to have constant access to lvl 8 Synchro Monsters, every 2 turns if possible.

For those of you who play Moja decks, you know that Moja gives access to King of the Beasts (KOTB) as it's main attacker most of the times. Kinka-Byo allows for Moja and KOTB to be constantly be returning to the field. But what do you normally do when you already have KOTB on the field? Kinka-Byo just sits in the hand waiting for it to return.

However, what if Kinka-Byo could also aid KOTB by bringing out a new friend? By using it's effect when KOTB is still out, bring back Keymouse and synchro for lvl 8, or a lvl 9 (Trishula and Mist Wurm) depending on your situation. Due to Kinka-Byo's effect to return to the hand, Keymouse and KOTB could become quite the troublesome duo.

Give it a try, you might like it!

Cards of Consonance

If the March 2010 list taught us anything, it's a way to slow down the game. Allure of Darkness, Destiny Draw, and Charge all got limited, slowing down a considerable amount of decks down.

Allure of Darkness, Destiny Draw y Charge of the Light Brigade todas fueron limitadas, bajando la velocidad de muchos decks considerablemente.

However, Absolute Powerforce has brought us a new card worth looking into. Cards of Consonance can be quite the effective draw engine if you run Dragon type monsters in your deck that fit the criteria (Dragon type tuner with 1000ATK or less).

Decks like Junk & Debris can suddenly get a slight boost from this. However, this card can really shine with White Stone of Legend. Discard it with Cards of Consonance, draw 2 cards and get Blue Eyes White Dragon as well, then activate Trade-In to get 2 more cards. (Credit to my friend Diego for telling me about this combo.)

Despues usa "Trade-In" para robar 2 cartas mas.

Could this be indirect Earthbound Immortal support?

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 1 "Stardust Dragon" from your Extra Deck. There can only be 1 face-up "Sin" monster on the field. When this card is face-up on the field, other monsters you control cannot declare an attack. If there is no face-up Field Spell Card on the field, destroy this card. While this card is face-up, a Field Spell card(s) cannot be destroyed.

The best way to exploit this would be with Chacu Challhua. Use it's effect to inflict burn damage, while you attack with Sin Stardust Dragon. However, it's also good tech for any deck that relies on field spells.

Mausoleum decks will benefit greatly from this, especially the variants that use Skill Drain.

Decks que usan "Mausolem of the Emperor" benefician de esto, especialmente las versiones que corren "Skill Drain."

Field spells that are worth protecting with this card are: Mausoleum of the Emperor, Black Garden, Necrovalley, Fusion Gate (for some OCG Hero decks), along with Harpie's Hunting Ground (won't get destroyed if it's the only spell card on the field) and Ojama Country (for kicks).

Some field spells you should avoid if you plan on using this card would be Geartown and A Legendary Ocean. Both are useful on the field, but also shine off it.

Either way, Sin Stardust Dragon is a good card to use if you plan on using any deck that relies on field spells.

Claymore Dud

This card is has great potential! I'm going to main it in Vanity Gadgets 1.5

Activate by selecting 2 Attack Position monsters on the field. When either of the selected monsters are removed from the field, this card is destroyed. When this card is destroyed, those monsters are destroyed.

It makes for great removal. Let's say one of your monsters is about to get destroyed, chain Claymore Dud and designate your own and any monster your opponent controls you want gone. Boom! Problem solved.

Pesky Judgment Dragon causing problems in your game? Let Claymore Dud take care of that for you!

This is one of the many good cards coming out in Absolute Powerforce next month, and it's quite exciting. Anti-Meta decks are going to enjoy running this, even if it's just in the side deck.

Anubis has Arrived!

Well...Anubis has always been here, actually.

The results from SJC are in and it seems our meta will now be mostly filled with Lightsworn and Zombies. This can only mean one thing...time for me to update my creation to new standards. Time for Vanity Gadgets to get some new tech to combat all this graveyard usage.

And even if you don't run my VG deck, this is still one card that would be worth having on the side-deck.

End of Anubis

Fiend/Dark/7/Effect

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, all effects of Spell, Trap, and Effect Monster Cards that target a card(s) in the Graveyard or that activate in the Graveyard are negated.

So why would this card be used as tech for most side decks? Simple

Since Anubis stops anything related to the graveyard, it brings Zombies down quickly. But not just zombies, it also stops commonly used cards such as Vayu, Wulf, prevents Lumina from special summoning, Necro Gardna is rendered useless, along with many other cards.

With this card, I have begun to work on a slight new project for Vanity Gadgets in which it shuts down the opponent's graveyard as well as keeping the usual field control. Yes, Banisher is in my original version, but this new version might become completely focused to battle a whole new meta.

And so it would emerge..."Vanity Gadgets and the Valley of Death"

visitor #'s
